Surviving (Thriving?) Through the Holiday Season
This is how we survive (maybe, even, could it be? THRIVE our way though) the holidays…
Maintain early & consistent bedtimes.
Prepare kids. Set expectations for schedule, changes, and guests.
See behavior as communication. Meet needs proactively.
Create space for connection with first family.
Give kids choices whenever possible.
Remember that holidays can trigger grief & loss.
Create quiet spaces where kids can take breaks.
Let kids opt out of hugs, photos, or activities.
Don’t fight battles around food.
Focus on creating new traditions together.
Pay attention to sensory needs & provide outlets & input.
Prioritize felt safety over being polite.
Lower expectations (and then lower them again).
Celebrate small wins and moments of connection.
