I Can Still Be "Pro-Bio Family" Because I Know That God is "Pro-Bio Family"

Q: How do you remain pro-bio family when there's active addiction & minimal case plan progress??

A: Because like any other conviction, it's based on what I believe from God's Word & not on the circumstances that surround me.

I hold the conviction of prioritizing the protection & restoration of the family not because it's always logical or what I want, but because I believe that God created & cherishes & desires to heal the family.

So I always begin with praying for, hoping for, & working towards that.

And even when termination needs to happen, I can still be "pro-bio family" because I know that God is "pro-bio family." In some cases this might look like advocating for reunification of the family & radically supporting parents. And in some cases it might look like advocating for the protection of a child & praying, speaking, & thinking with honor & love from afar.

But in all cases—whether the family can remain together or not—we can & should be pro-bio family.

When I'm working to have an informed & compassionate view of others, I fight to see them as a whole person with a whole story (often trauma, abuse, & foster care as part of their own story) and it builds my empathy for them.

Addiction is a horrible slavery and my heart breaks for anyone who is stuck in it.

Also, when I seek to walk in humility, I see that nothing I have & nothing I am is anything other than a gift from God. My family, story, resources, support, & resilience is only a gift and something that should lead me to gratitude to Him & compassion for others.
