Who Do You Identify With More?

Who do you identify with more?
The Savior or the saved?
The Helper or the helped?
The Rescuer or the rescued?
The Healer or the sick?
The Source or the needy?

In the story of grace, I’m not the hero, I’m the damsel in distress. Desperate and destitute, dependent on Him for rescue.

I could be in the same position as my kids’ parents.
The more I consider what so many of them have walked through, the easier it becomes to approach in humility, compassion, love.

If I had experienced the same trauma, abuse, neglect…
If I didn’t have my support system, childhood, resources…
But for the very grace of God, saving, protecting, providing…

I know what I am capable of—any and every kind of failure, evil, weakness, mistake. I’m no better, I’m no different. And the more I believe this very true reality, the more I will be led into true and humble love.

As a foster parent, I am compelled by the love of Christ. I seek to love with the love of Christ. But firstly and mostly, I am the recipient of the love of Christ.

It’s this love—undeserved, unearned, sacrificial, & extravagant—that drives the love I show. It’s this love that (I pray) keeps me loving humbly.
