JESSICA: ON BIRTH ORDER + PREGNANCY IN FOSTER CARE + SAYING "YES" TO TEENS

Today I’m talking to Jessica Mathisen, a foster, adoptive, and biological mom, and we had such a great chat talking about birth order and pregnancy in foster care, saying yes to teenagers, and what it means to be a good mom. Jessica Mathisen lives in Athens, Georgia with her family. She is a recovering perfectionist, a former teacher, and a lover of people. She is the author of four books, and her passion is to communicate God's love to others through writing and relationships. Her most favorite things are hanging with her family, eating chips and salsa, and reading good books. I just loved this conversation with her as she just shared her heart and her family with us and I know you will, too!

  • The intro song, The Source, is brought to you by one of the best new worship bands out there, The Evidence. Yes, the frontman is my (talented, brilliant, adorable, Jesus-loving) cousin. No, that's not why I love them.

  • Did I mention that Jessica is a published author!? Check out her four books here! And there’s one just for you, foster momma - Fostering Prayer, A 40 Day Guide for Foster Parents.

  • Jessica talks about reading Motherhood Without All the Rules by Maggie Combs and how impactful it was for her. You should check it out, too!

  • Jessica shared that she and her husband like to watch Worth It, a BuzzFeed production on YouTube. This show sounded so fun to me so I looked it up and have a link to share! Check it out.

  • She also thinks Carrie Underwood’s new album, My Savior, is pretty fantastic. So you should probably go ahead and check that out, too!
